A point perhaps...

Sun Jul 13, 2008, 8:04 PM
I've often wondered why I feel compelled to write out my thoughts, to attempt to express my feelings artistically. It’s a subject I spend many hours contemplating.

Some write for fun, some write to soothe, some write to medicate, some write to punish, some write to indulge, some write for the sake of, some write to pay the bills.

Why do I write? I think I write because I feel inspired at select moments, moments of clarity, of perspective, of objectivity, of insight, of completely random thought.

When I write, I try to express exactly what I had thought or felt at that moment, my poems are trying to be a snapshot of thought, a painting of a feeling I felt.

What do I write about? I write about questions and ideas. Life is series of moments and scenes. Some are small, some are large, some are important and some are not. Importance and size can sometimes have a reverse correlation to each other and sometimes they do not. Life to me is simple in thought and complicated in action. I write about moments and scenes I see, hear and feel that are important to me, because they are the moments that make me pause; Those moments when life simple stops and allows you a moment of reflection. In those moments life seems both simple and utterly complex, life presents itself as a paradox. Perhaps it is just as such.

These moments of pause are infrequent, but profoundly significant to me, and perhaps that’s why I write about them, to preserve those moments when I stop and think and look at life for what it can be instead of simple what it is.
